Golf Insurance Statistics

  • 90% of golfers are uninsured and believe that if something goes wrong it will be covered by a homeowners policy.  A majority of the time this is incorrect.  Many policies exclude public liability covererage for sport injury and offer only restricted cover for equipment used for golf.  Theft may only cover you if your clubs are stolen from your house and not your car or at a golf course.
  • Over 12,000 golf accidents are reported annually.  Almost 3,531 of those golf accidents involves some type of head injury.
  • Over 10,000 golfers a year seek hospital treatment as a direct result from injury that takes place on the golf course.
  • In April of 1998, The Court of Appeal ruled that golfers who mis-hit shots causing injury or damage to other people or property will be liable to pay the damages even if they do yell "Fore".
  • According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, there are approximately 15,000 golf cart related injuries requiring emergency room treatment in the US alone each year.
  • More than 159 deaths have occured by golfers being struck by lightning on the golf course.
  • Golf Digest Reported in 1999 the following statistics regarding a Hole in One during a round of Golf:
    • Odds of a PGA Tour player scoring an ace: 3,000 to 1
    • Odds of a Low-handicapper scoring an ace: 5,000 to 1
    • Average Golfer scoring an ace: 12,000 to 1

The American Heart Association regularly lists golf courses among the top five locations for an incident of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Survival is contingent upon CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED) used within 5 minutes of the incident. The national SCA survival rate is ~5% without early access to an AED whereas the rate for CardioReady® Certified sites is over 70%.
